Nanjing Medical University (NMU), founded in 1934, is one of the top institutions of higher learning in China. Located in the beautiful city of Nanjing, which used to be the capital city of six ancient Chinese dynasties and is currently the capital of Jiangsu province, NMU comprises two campuses, Wutai campus and Jiangning campus. Located next to the downtown Wutai Shan Sports Centre and covering an area of 80,000 m2, Wutai campus is the educational centre for NMU’s scientific research activities and postgraduate education. Located in the Jiangning district campus city and covering an area of 980,000 m2, Jiangning campus is the educational center for NMU’s undergraduate programs. It consists of 15 secondary schools and 1 independent school.
They are the School of Basic Medical Sciences, the First School of Clinical Medicine, the Second School of Clinical Medicine, the Third School of Clinical Medicine, the fourth school of Clinical medicine, the School of Gulou Clinical Medicine, the School of Stomatology, the School of Public Health, the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the School of Nursing, the School of Medical Policy and Management, the School of International Education, Kangda School, the school of foreign language, the School of Continuing Education and the School of Higher Vocational and Technical Education.

NMU has 3 first-level disciplines that confer doctoral degrees, 35 second-level disciplines that confer doctoral degrees, 3 post-doctoral stations, 7 first-level disciplines that confer master’s degrees, 55 second-level disciplines that confer master’s degrees, 3 national key disciplines, 12 provincial key disciplines, 12 five-year programs, 2 six-year dual bachelor’s degree programs, and 3 seven-year programs.
Currently more than 10,000 students are on campus during the academic year. NMU has 19 affiliated hospitals and over 30 teaching hospitals in the cities of Nanjing, Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, Huai’an, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
NMU has a strong faculty team of 1501 registered faculty members, including 159 full professors, 344 associate professors, 132 supervisors of doctoral programs and 386 supervisors of master’s programs. Among them are 15 National-Level Experts with Special Allowance sponsored by the State Council, one winner of ‘National May 1st Labor Medal’, 3 national excellent teachers, 4 national excellent backbone teachers, 1 expert with Extraordinary Contribution from Ministry of Health.
NMU has 1 key laboratory at ministry level, 2 key laboratories co-established by the ministry and the provincial government, 7 provincial key laboratories and research centers.
NMU’s Library is the central medical library in Jiangsu Province and the medical literature center of the university literature service system. The university library has a collection of over 1,220,000 volumes, including over 5,700 categories of periodicals in English and Chinese. 11 categories of academic periodicals among which the ‘Journal of Nanjing Medical University’, ‘Clinical Dermatology’, ’Clinical Neurology’ and ’Jiangsu Medicine’ are sponsored by the university. Besides, the establishment of a digital campus has brought extra convenience to teaching, scientific research, management and study.
